The Del Rubio Triplets - Three Gals, Three Guitars

From the original Blue Yonder Sounds press release August 3, 1988:

Los Angeles-based Blue Yonder Sounds, in association with newly-formed Cabazon records, has released the debut album by self-styled 'singsationalists'" The Del Rubio Triplets.

"Three Gals, Three Guitars" is the first album recorded by the San Pedro-based triplets, whose unique singing and performing career has spanned decades.

Produced by Bill Rhea, the album contains twelve cover tunes arranged and performed by the sisters Del Rubio.

The triplets' distinctive sound of exotic acoustic guitar arrangements and imaginative vocal harmonies is the result of years of continual playing and performing.

Born in Panama, Milly, Eadie, and Elena were raised in Washington, D.C. before venturing to Hollywood after high school to pursue their musical careers. They learned to play guitar as children, and have been performing with the same Martin guitars since their teenage years.

Their individual identities can be detected during a live show when Eadie plays rhythm, Elena covers bass and most lead vocals, and Milly plays lead and provides the group's only percussion - crisp finger-knocks to the side her guitar. All three share vocal harmonies.

The dozen tracks on the LP are only a small portion of their 750-song repertoire of rock and pop classics, ballads, nostalgia numbers, and sing-a-longs. They sing in eight languages, accounting for their reputation as "international song stylists," and have toured more than thirty countries, including Greece, Morocco, Singapore, and India. Their fluency in Spanish has made Latin numbers a fixed part of their shows.

The Del Rubio Triplets adhere to a busy playing schedule. Daytime finds them making appearances at Southland hospitals and retirement homes, and night at the clubs and underground venues of Hollywood. Averaging three to four shows a day, they perform more than one thousand times a year.

Note: Of the trio, only Milly survives. Sister Eadie passed away December 16, 1996 at age 75 followed by Elena on March 19, 2001.
